Usmania Hall, Walima & Rukhsati photography ~ Dan Barlow

Shabina & Usman

I was delighted to get a phone call from Shabina asking me to photograph her wedding day having met already at her cousin’s wedding back in 2014 and I was so glad that I could work for her lovely family again. She asked me if I would be her family’s photographer so that she would have a record of her whole wedding day from hers and her family’s perspective. I started early at the family home and everyone soon got used to me being there which meant I could take the unposed documentary photos Shabina wanted.

Once we arrived at Usmania Banqueting Hall Manchester, I was free to keep shooting unposed, documentary photos of the family, of the guests and then Usman’s drum-tastic arrival! I was glad to be working with the videographers Wasim Ghafoor and Mirage Ahmed of Allure Events (who I’d met on the pre-wedding photoshoot) as Usman’s arrival was hectic and we knew we would need to co-ordinate well to make the best possible job of capturing it on film and stills without holding the day up. After food, we worked through the formal portraits until it was time for the emotional Rukhsati to take place.

After leaving, we headed down to Castlefield for some dusk portraits on the cobbles. Apart form us, no-one was expecting to see a bride and groom step out of a Bentley in their full wedding attire down by Barca bar and the responses and well wishes from the public was amazing – Manchester at it’s friendly best.

Congratulations Shabina & Usman, thank you for letting me be a part of your day!
